Yelagiri (Tamil: ஏலகிரி) is a hill station / village in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, India, situated off the Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road. Its an idyllic place for a short holiday. It is called the princess of hill stations and is the most pristine and unpolluted among the hill stations in Tamil Nadu.
Yelagiri is about 150 km from Bangalore and 220 km from Chennai. It takes about 3.30 hour drive from Chennai and less than 2.30 hours from Bangalore. And it is the only closest hill station available to Chennai.
Yelagiri, at a height of 3500 ft above sea level is very short to climb compared to other hill stations in Tamil Nadu. It takes just about 20 minutes by car to go to the top of Yelagiri Hills.
Yelagiri has a moderate climate all through the year. During summers (March to June) temperature varies from 18°C to 34°C. Winters (November to February) are cool and comfortable, temperature ranges from 11°C to 25°C. Monsoons (July to September) receives an average rainfall.
This makes Yelagiri an ideal weekend destination for people from Chennai and Bangalore.
